First Tastes

On October 24th, Finley's 6-month birthday, we decided he was ready for his first solid foods.  We started him on some mashed up organic sweet potatoes we got from the Meridian Township Farmer's Market.

How did it go?  Well, watch for yourself:

Since then, it's been kind of hit and miss:

Squash he tolerated.
Rice cereal mixed with apple sauce he loved!
Spaghetti he had a blast playing with

But he hasn't quite jumped on the green vegetable wagon yet.  Avocados never made it down the hatch.  And green beans?  Well, again, you watch for yourself:

And it was all...YELLOW

No, this post is not a decade-late tribute to the Coldplay song of the same name because that song is actually one of my least favorite Coldplay songs of all time.

It's about our kitchen:
It is now all very, very yellow!
For reference, this is what the kitchen looked like before:
In addition to the rather dismal brown paint
and childish decals, the ceiling paint was
forever getting bugs and other critters
stuck in it.

As you can see from the next few pictures, Victoria's folks did most of the work.  In fact, when I left for work in the morning, they hadn't started, and when I came home, Victoria and Jan were just putting on the finishing touches!  Now that's my idea of repainting.
Lou does the rolling.
Jan does the edging / acrobatics.
The final product!  It turned out to be just a bit brighter than we'd anticipated from the paint sample, but we love it.  It's bright and cheery enough to get us through some long, gray, cloudy Michigan winters.
The dining room corner
Our small alley kitchen
Vic's over-the-sink painting of lemons and kumquats now
matches perfectly!
